Have you ever faced a situation that you had to buy a housewarming gift and you didn’t know what to buy? Sounds familiar?
Here I will provide a couple of a good housewarming gift ideas as well as not so good ones. Hopefully you’ll find it useful.

A successful housewarming gift would be something special, lasting and meaningful. Something one can put in a living room and it will be noticeable, precious as well as beautiful. So…I ask myself what could be this perfect housewarming gift that would be all those together?
Here is one suggestion for a housewarming gift that I liked very much.

Not successful housewarming gifts:

Bamboo – terrible gift because it lives forever and you have to take care of it. The giver will always come over and expect to see the bamboo.

Large housewarming gifts – unless you know the person very well and if you know they want something particular. Also the person has a hard time hiding that that gave your gift away at a white elephant party.

Dying plants – Do not bring a plant that has seen better days or you bought on sale from Lowe’s that is on it’s last leg. Most people don’t have green thumbs and bringing them a plant that needs a highly skilled surgeon to repair it is pointless.

Recicled plants – No I don’t mean made form recycled materials. I am talking about gifts that you can find no purpose for so you you re wrap them. If you think it was a useless gift (like the pink flamingo my wife once received) throw it away and don’t torture someone else with it.

Pets – Yes, people have actually brought in pets at house warming parties. Here is how that conversation might go:

Homeowner: “You didn’t have to…..”

Guest: “When I found Fido at my trashcan eating leftovers I knew he would need a good home. I thought since now you had such a big place he would have room to play here…”

Homeowner: “I am lucky to have you as a…. fr….i…e……nd…………(Sigh). What happened to your bowling game you were going to tonight?” From Bad Housewarming Gifts blog.

Flowers
They are expensive. They die after just a few days. People use them for funerals. The plants that they come from give us oxygen. What more can we say to convince you that the traditional gift idea of flowers is just wrong?

Soft Toys

Seriously people. How old are you? Plush toys are OK before you turn eight. Today, if you tear the wrappers off and discover a stuffed toy inside, your friends are probably saying “you’re a retard”.
